Overallsize & vehicle integration

It is difficult to determine the overallsize of an engine without considering its max power and torque. However, as a first approach, it is interesting to determine to which conventional engine corresponds each dimension of the MCE-5 VCR engine block.

The 4 cylinder MCE-5 VCR engine available on vehicles in 2007 responds to following features: 1.5 Liter capacity; bore: 75 mm; stroke: 84 mm; max power: 160 kW; max torque: 300 Nm. Dimensions for this engine block are as follows:

Length:
Identical to that of a conventional engine with the same bore.
Height:
Identical to that of a 2.2 L4 Diesel engine.
Width:
Max: smaller than a 1.5 L4 conventional SI engine of about 30 mm.
Min: higher than a 1.5 L4 conventional SI engine of about 40 mm.

The MCE-5 VCR technology has no dimensional impact on other parts of the engine. Its compact architecture allows for a large variety of engine position and orientation and permits covering a wide range of vehicles:

As the MCE-5 is an all-in-one VCR engine block, it does not require new technolgies for its integration into vehicles such as specific connections to pipes and peripherals or specific transmission to gearbox (contrary to several VCR engine concepts). As a result, future VCR engines based on the MCE-5 VCR engine block technology will be fixed and integrated into all vehicles as if they were conventional engines:

Conclusion

The dimensions of a 1.5 Liter 4-cylinder MCE-5 VCR engine block constitute a mix between the dimensions of small capacity engines (length and width) and those of Diesel engines (height). Such a 1.5 Liter VCR engine can be implemented into all vehicles as if it were a conventional engine and offers both a high power and torque density (160 kW and 300 Nm) and a low Fuel Consumption.

Thanks to these features, the MCE-5 technology opens the way to the implementation of high power fuel-efficient VCR engines on a wide range of vehicles.
